For Billy Boyd, owner of Billy Boyd Realty & Construction Inc., real estate, land development and home building go hand in hand.  After graduating from The University of Alabama he began home-building in 1964 and opened his own real estate and construction company in 1966.  After many years of hard work and sacrifice Billy Boyd Realty & Construction has grown to four real estate agents and 20 to 30 other employees.  Boyd likes to keep the number of employees low due to the fact that he likes to have control over how the work is done.  Boyd says that no one else in town has that same degree of control,  it allows him to do things when he wants them done.  If it is not done right, he can say "tear it down." 

Boyd strives for excellence in every construction project whether it's residential or commercial, custom or speculative. With the help of his employees, subcontractors and suppliers, Boyd usually builds about 30 homes a year, which along with existing homes, are sold by the real estate portion of the business.  His speculative homes range in price from $130,000 to $750,000, and he builds three or four of the more expensive homes each year. Boyd specializes in custom built homes and residential and construction developments.
 
Boyd uses a four-leaf clover as a logo for his company,  and it seems to have brought him good luck.  Most of the luck, of course, is really hard work and the fact that Boyd really enjoys what he does.  "If a fellow doesn't like his work, he's missing something," he says.  "I wouldn't do it if I didn't like it."
